If you are taking an overnight trek with Barking Gecko then you will spend at least one night at Tree House Village. Tree House Village is situated in the small village of Mae Mae which is home to an ethnic Shan population. This timber and bamboo construction clings to the hillside on the edge of the village and affords some great views over the valley below. Currently the accommodation consists of a communal dorm room
and three private rooms, the accommodation is basic but comfortable and does offer a little bit more in the way of comfort than the usual rough and ready trekking accommodation offered on many other hill tribe treks. There is a large central veranda which overhangs the hill side and serves as a great communal area for eating relaxing and socializing at the end of the day and into the evening.

Tree house village is a joint partnership project between the operators of Barking Gecko and the local Shan community. The accommodation is now run and managed by the local Shan villages and gives them a means to benefit from the tourists and trekkers who now pass through their village. Evening meals and breakfast will be prepared by the Shan villages.
As Tree House Village is situated high up in the hills the air is a lot cooler there. Most evenings you will need at least a warm pullover and in the cold season temperature can get very cold at night.....warm thick pullovers or jackets are a must!
